Picks and Pans
Hey everyone! I really do plan on coming back to the tumbler world some time soon. I have been taking a break due to LOVING my new job, but I miss writing on here! I can’t possibly fit in what I have been up to over the past 2 months so instead I am going to list some of my Picks and Pans from what I’ve been doing!
Picks:
Nailpolish -
Essie STEEL-ing the Scene- It’s a really...

The best of 2010
Hellooo all! I’ve dropped by for the second time in months to list my 2010 highlights, here is the best of the best that has kept me smiling all year!
#1 - NEW JOB! I hoped, I prayed, I cried and begged the universe to send me a new job, and it happened this past year! I was able to get away from environment that was extremely bad for me and negative and ended up working for one of the best...
holy snowballs...I have been gone forever
HI Tumblr!! Remember me? I am that girl who used to write things on here then disappeared about a month ago…
But I will at least say on my behalf that I disappeared for good reason, as some of you with an excellent memory may recall I was laid off from what I referred to as “Doom Island”.
It was the second best thing that ever happened to me in my life, trumped only by being...

Busy doing nothing
I haven’t been on Tumblr in a while, there is a great reason for it though… I got a job!
I haven’t started yet but ever since I got the great news I have been making the most of my time off by reading books, watching daytime TV, taking naps, running errands, doing all those wonderful things that I have gotten to spend my days doing over the past 6 weeks off of work.
As nice as...
Oh Friday....I love you.
I had an uber frustrating morning today, I won’t bore you with details but it was enough to send me into a fit of tears. So instead of wallowing in it, here is my “things can only get better this Friday” plan:
1. Bubble Bath! Something I haven’t done in ages. I am reading a great book that I haven’t been able to put down the past two days called Half The Sky ( I will...
Suggestions please!
Kevin’s boss told him to take me out to a nice dinner on him (yay!) so we have been brainstorming where to go…
I want to try something newish and unique. I am not a big fan of fancy schmansy places, but rather places that are a little bit different.
Any recommendations for me in Chicago?

Love The Way You Lie
Why would Rihanna, a victim of domestic violence, sing on a track with Eminem as he talks about hitting a woman and tying her to a bed and setting the house on fire? This song glorifies domestic abuse and is hugely disappointing to me that Rihanna would participate.
The producer of Eminem’s video counters criticism stating that the video and song are merely shedding light on an issue that...
Really?!
I tutor teenagers on Wednesday nights and last week there was another tutor sitting with a couple kids helping them out when I overheard him ask:
“What is diversity?”
To which of course I had to chime in “It’s an old wooden ship”
But all I got in return was weird stares and crickets.
The kids are excusable (I guess). I am not sure if Anchorman is age appropriate,...
Upcoming Events
My calendar is booked full of fun events in the upcoming weeks and I can’t wait for them to start!!! Fall through New Years Eve is always packed with parties, football games, and holiday season get-togethers and I love it! Here is a look at some of the stuff coming up the next couple weeks:
Thursday - The Jersey Shore season finale which me and some girlfriends have turned into an event....
Detox and new friends
After the past weekend I am desperately in need of a healthy week. I spent time time bowling (drinking beer) watching MSU (drinking beer and eating nachos) and going to my first Bears game (drinking beer and eating hot dogs) then finished off the weekend with some Chinese food.
I could use a couple gallons of water and a salad, to say the least.
To counteract my weekend of debauchery I would...
The joys of unemployment
This article came out awhile ago (when I was still working on Doom Island) about how it is widely believed that a long with layoffs comes depression and low self esteem, but through some research it was found that the “laid off are better off”.
I believe this to be true and during my layoff I’ve been the happiest I have felt in a long time. I was given the opportunity to start...
Now that I have a lot more free time on my hands, I have been making healthy food from scratch almost every day. A couple days ago I made my favorite fall/winter treat, chicken noodle soup from scratch.
It was delicious!
Big news Monday
As of Thursday, September 30th 2010, I am no longer an employee on Doom Island.
Layoffs happened throughout our company and I was part of them. Don’t start to feel bad for me just yet though, I am sure that this is going to be a good thing for many, many reasons.
1. Doom Island provided me a paycheck, great benefits, and a lot of great people - many of whom turned into close friends. Even...

Oh, you guys...
What a day.
I got that call I have been waiting for, it was good news and not so good news all at once.
I got a lot accomplished at work.
I have a night of meetings and gym ahead of me, followed by wonderfulness known as DVR’ed dancing with the stars.
It wasn’t a bad day. It wasn’t the best day.
It was long. And I am leaving Doom now. Thank goodness.
4 hours
I get 4 good hours a day in between working, sleeping, and getting ready for work in the morning. And I want to use those hours on something pretty good Monday-Thursday.
But I also want to fit in going to the gym, making dinner, and having a clean apartment with clean laundry.
How can I make more out of my time? Does anyone have any tips for me?
"If it feels good, do it"
I was a senior in highschool in leadership class, when I first heard this quote. We were all talking about adding a quote underneath our pictures in the yearbook and what we would chose. Our teacher who must have been only 25 at the time told us not to pick anything ridiculous, but something we could be remembered by. “Don’t say something like ‘If it feels good, do it’, is...
Tuesday Highlights
*I decided to go Vegetarian again for a month and cut out as much dairy as possible. Should be a nice little detox.
*I am going to see Easy A tonight with a group of girls, and the movie is only $6 on Tuesday nights!
*I am waiting on good news. Great news, actually.
*I decided to be happy even though I have been having a lot of negative thoughts lately. And having some great friends close by...
Happy Friday Everyone!
I need good luck today. Lots and lots of it and a little good kharma and I need the universe to totally be on my side.
Any well wishes sent my way I am sure will help all of these things fall into place, so if you have a spare second, and want to make a little wish that my day goes well, I would love love love you for it!!!
I am wishing everyone else great days too.
Queue
Why in the world is this word spelled that way? It doesn’t make any sense.
When I first went to London I had a little book that was called something along the lines of “Thing Americans Don’t Know About London”.
One of the things in the book was the phrase “Queue up” meaning get in line. I must admit, I had no idea what that word meant before my trip there.

Confession
I have never seen The Princess Bride, The Never Ending Story, or The Goonies (in full). I know. It’s not right.
I am not sure why I never saw any of these, but I can say that I thought I was “too mature” for kids movies when I was a kid and my list of favorites included Aspen Extreme, The Cutting Edge, and Circle of Friends. I had no idea what any of them were really about.

Volunteering
The tutoring program I volunteer for starts up again tonight, I signed up last year to help keep teenagers out of gangs and get their grades up. I knew it would be a rewarding experience but honestly, I initially looked into it to meet someone. I had been single for a couple years at that point and figured even if I didn’t meet anybody it would be a good way to spend my time.
I started...
Which Golden Girls insult was the best?
“Jealousy is an ugly thing, Dorothy. And so are you, in anything backless.” — Sophia
“You’re only gonna sit in an inch of water?” — Sophia, after Blanche says she’s going to “go take a long, hot, steamy bath with just enough water to barely cover my perky bosoms.”
“I think she’s a Gerchominochen … Literally, it’s...
Playing the waiting game
Patience is something that I have a hard time with sometimes, when I want something I generally want it right now.
I am waiting on some big news. It could either be good or bad, and either way I just want to know. Now.
I keep staring at my phone, willing it to ring. Like if I keep my eye on it the number I want will pop up and I will stop dreaming about this phone call, thinking about it all...
Thoughts on frienship
I’ve heard that you change the most in your twenties, and from what I can see sitting somewhere around mid twenty seven this could definitely be true.
Every year that passes I learn so much, and I become a stronger person who is more sure of myself, my decisions, and my capabilites.
I think every young girl really leans on her friends to tell her she is doing the right thing and to make...
Lazy weekend
This weekend was all about sleep, food, movies, and relaxation.
Friday night my sister and her boyfriend Shingo came over, we made buffalo chicken nachos (amazingness) and shared a couple bottles of wine. Shingo and Kevin went out on the patio to drink some beers while me and Alayne put in Sex and the City the movie and laid on the couch. I fell asleep halfway through the movie and woke up at 1am...
